Please pay close attention to the "Red Shirt" Parking Volunteers. They will direct you to the show field parking areas. Westmont Cruisn' Nights starts June 6 and continues weekly through August from 5pm - 9pm in downtown Westmont. Three blocks of downtown Westmont closed off and dedicated to classic car parking. A quick reminder; shows are updated on our site weekly during the season. Check out what’s happening each week here. We have a big section in this issue that revisits the foundation’s successes, and I figured that most of you know what this magazine is all about already. The Custom & Classic Car Educational Foundation is celebrating its 10th year since inception and the Car Show & Cruise Guide in now in its 15th year.

St. Charles Rd and Main St. Downtown Lombard celebrates 25 years of the family-friendly fun at the weekly Saturday Cruise Nights and Summer Concert Series from June 15 through August 24. Cruise Nights on the River takes place from 5pm - 8pm on Wednesday,June 9 and Wednesday, August 7 at Riverfront Park. The event is hosted by the Yorkville Parks and Recreation Department. Preregistration is not required. Day-of-show registration is free.

Monday Night Cruise-In Car Show 5pm - 9pm begins Monday, June 3 and continues every Monday until August 26. Classic, vintage, antique and muscle cars/trucks 25 years or older are welcome. If you have a newer muscle, high performance, specialty car or truck, it is also allowed if unique.

The bill, signed into law last month by Gov. Gavin Newsom, also lifted a ban on vehicles that have any parts extending below the bottom of the rims. Each week all are welcome to purchase 50/50 raffle tickets. This weekly 50/50 drawing is held near the close of the cruise night. Look for Red Shirts and special guests who will be selling 50/50 tickets.

That motivated groups — including the United Lowrider Coalition — to organize and push for AB 436. Dozens of car clubs and community organizers pulled together across California, reaching out to state legislators.

He said lowrider clubs in some jurisdictions work with law enforcement to make sure street takeovers are discouraged at their events. With bans being enforced in cities across the state, Arellano said, lowrider owners often couldn’t drive down the streets of their own communities. The cars are a point of pride, she said, with owners investing thousands of dollars — sometimes hundreds of thousands — to refurbish and transform them. Some work for months or years detailing their prized possessions. In some families, the cars are passed on for younger generations to care for, maintain and make their own. She recalled how, after National City banned cruising in 1992, she and other car owners took to the side streets off Highland Avenue, but officials closed those areas too.
